Youth at The Child Study Treatment Center Create Hand-Drawn Holiday Cards for DSHS

In what has become an annual event, youth at DSHS’ Child Study and Treatment Center participated in a special holiday card art contest over the past month to create hand-drawn holiday greeting cards for DSHS.

Dozens of youth participated and four winners were nominated by CSTC to be included in this year’s DSHS holiday card deck (artwork below). This year, the cards were turned into eCards so anyone in DSHS can use them to send holiday cheer.

Secretary Jilma Meneses selected the card featuring Pikachu as the eCard she included in her all-staff holiday message.

Erin Carpenter, CSTC Recreation Therapist Supervisor, manages the contest for CSTC and is mindful of the importance of recreational opportunities such as these.

“The holiday card project provides a wonderful opportunity for youth at CSTC to showcase their talent. It provides youth a healthy way to express themselves during a season that is typically difficult, and (the project) contributes to building confidence and self-esteem. The Recreation Therapy Services Department looks forward to continuing to grow this project in years to come.”

CSTC youth who drew winning entries will be receiving special printed versions of their cards and a poster of their winning entries.

A huge thanks go to the staff and youth at CSTC for creating the artwork and participating in the event.

Happy Holidays Everyone!
