WA Cares hosts webinar on the Gender Gap in Caregiving

--

Unpaid caregiving accounts for 85% of all elder care in the United States, and the bulk of unpaid or informal caregiving roles are taken on by women. The COVID-19 pandemic has only exacerbated this long-standing gap, taking and keeping women out of the workforce, lessening their economic opportunity and making gender gaps in many parts of society worse as a result. WA Cares hopes to help lessen some of this inequity, by giving all working Washingtonians a resource to pay for long-term care services and supports when they’re needed.

On July 19 from 3:30 p.m. — 4:30 p.m. via Zoom, WA Cares will host a panel discussion with experts and advocates on this topic and how the WA Cares Fund can help.

WA Cares staff will be joined by:

· Jessica Gomez- Barrios, Political and Advocacy Coordinator, Service Employees International Union (SEIU) 775

· Maggie Humphreys, Washington State MomsForce Director, Moms Rising

· Lunell Haught, President, Washington State League of Women Voters

Panelists will each provide an overview of their work in this area, followed by a discussion and audience Q&A. A brief summary of WA Cares will also be provided. We encourage all to come with their questions ready!
