OLYMPIA — From 1–2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 17, the WA Cares Fund will host a panel discussion via Zoom on Caregiver Mental Health.

Providing care for a loved one can be a rewarding experience, but it can also be stressful, time-consuming, expensive and emotional — especially for caregivers who don’t have a lot of family or financial support. Ensuring caregivers have access to ongoing support and resources helps reduce stress and improves outcomes for those who are receiving care and those providing it. Join our panel to learn about what resources are available to you or caregivers in your life.

Panelists are:

· Daryn Nelsen-Soza, Board Member and Senior Education Manager, NAMI Washington

· Dana Allard-Webb, Family Caregiver Support Program Manager, DSHS

· Adrienne Cotton, MAC and TSOA Program Manager, DSHS

· Lynne Korte, Dementia Care Program Policy Manager, Dementia Action Collaborative

Panelists will provide an overview of caregiver burnout, why caregiver mental health is important, supports and programs that can help, additional challenges when caring for someone with dementia, and resources available online. There will also be an opportunity for discussion and audience Q&A. We encourage all to come with their questions ready!
