Residents, staff and families at the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services’ Rainier School in Buckley donned tie dye t-shirts and sunblock for the annual Summerfest celebration on Aug. 17.

This year’s theme was based on Dr. Seuss’s book “Oh the Places You’ll Go.”

About 15 people are gathered for a photo, many are wearing red shirts or stripes, or Dr. Seuss costumes. Someone is dressed like the Grinch. Another person has a Cat in the Hat costume.

The event featured a parade with classic cars, resident decorated bicycles, golf carts, floats and mini horses.

Participants enjoyed live music and various street vendors selling their wares.

Among the items sold at Summerfest: plants from Rainier School’s greenhouse were sold at the event.

There were also games and a “splash zone” — an alternative to the usual dunk tank — which was still a welcomed reprieve from the nice summer sun.

A woman with blonde hair, sunglasses, a purple tank top and black pants, appears surprised as a bucket of water is released over her head in the splash zone at Rainier School’s Summerfest. Another participant is seen nearby is wet shorts and a wet shirt.
Three people are laughing, and one is getting a bucket of water poured over their head.
It was a hot day, and the splash zone was very popular!

Organizers did a great job planning a memorable event for residents, families and staff — and their work is appreciated!
