A Lakeland Village resident is in a wheelchair that is being loaded with a lift onto a van with the assistance of several staff. She is wearing a blue hooded blanket and is looking at a staff member.

In his famous “Drum Major Instinct” sermon on Feb. 4, 1968, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. talks about a life of service.

“Everybody can be great…because anybody can serve,” he said. “You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve. …You only need a heart full of grace, a soul generated by love. And you can be that servant.”

As public servants, DSHS staff are committed to transforming lives and making their communities a better place by providing access to critical care and human services to all Washingtonians.

For example, people who receive services at Lakeland Village in Spokane have a wide range of needs, from intellectual disabilities to behavioral health challenges.

Hear from passionate staff about the training and support Lakeland Village provides team members to best serve their clients in the video “Work of the Heart.”
